The Firebird Trilogy
June 14th, 2007 by Adam
The Firebird Trilogy is an idea I came up with after reading Byzantium and Patrick by Stephen R. Lawhead. I wanted to do a story that was a similar kind of sprawling epic journey. I already had plotted my High Fantasy saga, the Word and the Sword saga. So I began developing the general story of the Firebird trilogy, which eventually emerged as a fantasy version of the story of Joseph (with variations of course).
The Story
A young man is kidnapped when invaders conqueror his small tribal community and is taken to their far away land, where he must struggle with a life of servitude, language and custom differences, and learn to survive in a hostile land.
One day, as he is working in the fields, he runs across a fugitive from the law - a prophetess from his old country. He tries to hide her from those who would kill her, and in return she tells him of her vision of the Phoenix King, a great leader who will conqueror their conquerors.
This head-strong young man escapes his slavery and travels through distant lands, following the path set for him in order to find the Phoenix King, and the Phoenix King tells him to honor his masters and return to them until he arrives.
Does he return, or does he disobey his promised savior?
