The Word and the Sword saga
June 14th, 2007 by Adam
The Word and the Sword saga is my major fantasy series, with a projected 10 books. All of the books have been outlined in more or less detail, which allows me to plan precisely what happens in each while giving me the freedom to innovate. All of the books have titles, but you only get to know about the first two.
The Word and the Sword saga is set in the ancient Kingdom of Nulor, which is the greatest empire in the fantasy world of Numaloria, which is where the action is set. The saga follows the adventures and struggles of a young boy named Finian as he searches for his lost parents.
The world of Numaloria has been a creation of mine since I was about 15. Originally set in the Celtic Otherworld, and following a totally different story (a “return of King Arthur by way of his last descendant” kind of story), the world began to grow and change as I matured. It eventually shifted from being a separate but connected world to our own into a completely fantastical realm, and that was when I struck upon the idea that eventually became The Word and the Sword saga.
I was listening to some film music in 2005 and I suddenly got an image in my head of a young boy (who could shift shapes into a lion) who had a book that turns into a sword. I began exploring who this boy was and why he could change into a lion and had this book that could turn into a sword. And the story just kept getting bigger and bigger and more detailed, until it filled the outlines for ten books.
